Polestar expands grid rewards across Europe

Polestar has expanded its Polestar Energy offering in Europe, adding grid rewards in Germany and France and introducing car-controlled smart charging for the Polestar 2 and Polestar 4. The automaker says customers using the service can save up to €300 per year on home charging costs.

Grid rewards allow drivers to receive financial incentives for permitting their vehicle to support grid stability through smart charging. In Germany, Polestar owners with an Intelligent Octopus energy contract can save up to 50% on each home charging session, according to the company.

The new car-controlled smart charging feature enables vehicles to manage charging times based on energy prices, household demand, and grid conditions without requiring a specific integrated home charger. Polestar says this removes a barrier to smart charging adoption.

Olivier Loedel, Head of Product Software Management at Polestar, said: “Expanding the offer of grid rewards to more markets marks an important next step in lowering total costs of ownership for Polestar drivers. By unlocking savings of up to €300 per year, we are significantly reducing electricity costs for our customers at a time when energy prices remain high and grid stability is a growing concern across several European markets.”

Polestar Energy launched at the end of 2024 and expanded to 12 European markets by mid-2025, offering smart charging and home solar integration.
