Nio and Bosch have signed a strategic cooperation agreement during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to China
Nio and Bosch have signed a strategic cooperation agreement during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s first official visit to China. The partnership will span Nio’s three brands—Nio, Onvo and firefly—and focus on collaboration across core smart electric vehicle technologies.
The agreement covers drive-by-wire chassis and battery management systems, as well as key systems and components including braking, steering, powertrain, body electronics and sensing modules. Dr. Shen Feng, Executive Vice President of Nio and Chairman of its Quality Management Committee, and Dr. Johannes Sommerhaeuser, Regional President Asia-Pacific at Bosch Global Business Services, signed the agreement on behalf of the two companies.

Nio said the partnership will advance joint innovation in smart EV technologies, with both parties leveraging complementary strengths across the industrial value chain.
On 25 February, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Chancellor Merz jointly presided over a symposium of the China-Germany Economic Advisory Committee at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. William Li, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive of Nio, attended the symposium as a representative of China’s automotive industry, joining Chinese and German industry leaders to discuss green and low-carbon development, digital transformation, supply chain resilience and the bilateral investment environment.
