Engine improvements and aerodynamic changes help the new Canter exceed Japan’s FY2025 fuel efficiency standards
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation has launched an updated Canter light-duty truck in Japan, featuring improved fuel efficiency that exceeds the country’s FY2025 Fuel Efficiency Standards by 5% to 10%. The new model is now available through the truckmaker’s dealers and regional sales centres nationwide.

Fuel efficiency gains were achieved through engine improvements and optimised variable geometry turbo control. Aerodynamic enhancements include a revised front bumper design and standard door visors across all models. The highest efficiency gains of up to 10% above the JH25 standard are achieved by the 96kW engine variant equipped with the Duonic 2.0 dual-clutch automated manual transmission.
The updated Canter also complies with Japan’s cybersecurity regulations for vehicles. An optional centre display supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity via Bluetooth.
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation is headquartered in Kawasaki City and is 89.29% owned by Daimler Truck AG, with the remainder held by Mitsubishi group companies. The Fuso brand serves approximately 170 markets worldwide.
