Leapmotor launches European Innovation Centre in Munich

Leapmotor opened its Munich innovation centre with a preview of the B03X SUV, which the company says embodies its new design language

Leapmotor has opened its European Innovation Centre in Munich, its first research and design facility outside China, as the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker looks to deepen its presence in the European market. The centre is located in the Schwabing-Freimann district and will focus on integrating European design expertise with the company’s product development process.

The opening marks a shift in Leapmotor’s international strategy, moving beyond product exports towards establishing local design and engineering capability. At the opening event, Yu Shuyue, head of Leapmotor’s global design centre, presented the company’s design philosophy and used the forthcoming B03X SUV as a case study. The B03X, described by the company as embodying its “technological natural aesthetics 2.0” design language, is intended to carry Leapmotor’s family design identity into a new product segment targeting global markets.

Leapmotor said the Munich centre would serve as a creative hub for collaboration with European designers and engineers, with the aim of refining the brand’s design language to better reflect international consumer expectations. The company described the four pillars of its design values as purity, balance, texture, and warmth.

Leapmotor entered the European market in late 2024 through a distribution partnership with Stellantis, which holds a 21% stake in the brand. The Munich centre represents the company’s first fixed operational footprint in the region.
