JBD has unveiled Griffin, an automotive-grade MicroLED projection platform for human-vehicle interaction
JBD has unveiled Griffin, an automotive-grade MicroLED projection platform designed to project dynamic visuals onto the ground around vehicles for human-vehicle interaction. The first product on the platform, Griffin I, integrates hundreds of thousands of pixels within a 0.25-inch display area and delivers up to 500 lumens of luminous flux.

The compact form factor allows installation in rearview mirrors, doors, and other locations around the vehicle body. JBD says the platform overcomes constraints that have limited digital lighting systems from achieving high brightness, high image quality, and a small footprint simultaneously. Griffin I samples are expected to be available in mid-2026.
“Automotive-grade MicroLED projection systems transform the vehicle into an intelligent, expressive platform,” Li Qiming, Chief Executive Officer of JBD, said. “This new interaction paradigm makes communication between the vehicle and the outside world more intuitive, allowing light to become a warmer, more human-centred medium.”

JBD says the technology targets three application areas: personalised welcome displays showing custom patterns or video content, vehicle status indication such as battery level or tyre-pressure alerts projected before entering the vehicle, and road safety warnings to communicate vehicle intent to pedestrians and other drivers during turns or door opening.
The company said the platform could also extend beyond automotive to commercial and consumer projection applications.
