Infiniti unveils QX65 midsize SUV as U.S. sales decline continues

Infiniti on Thursday unveiled the 2027 QX65, a new midsize luxury SUV aimed at reviving the brand’s presence in the U.S. market after years of declining sales.

The QX65 will be powered by a 268-horsepower VC-Turbo engine producing 286 foot-pounds of torque and will feature dual 12.3-inch displays. The model is expected to start at $53,990, below the average luxury midsize vehicle price of about $77,000, according to Cox Automotive.

Infiniti, the premium brand of Nissan, sold a record 153,000 vehicles in the U.S. in 2017. Sales have declined nearly every year since, including a 9% drop in 2025, leaving the brand down 65.6% from its peak, according to Haig Partners.

The QX65 will become the third model in Infiniti’s U.S. lineup, joining two existing 2026 models, as the automaker targets one of the largest vehicle segments in the country.

The vehicle was unveiled at New York City’s Grand Central Terminal as part of the brand’s renewed focus on the U.S. market. Infiniti also said it plans to introduce one new vehicle annually over the next five years.

Industry analysts say the brand has faced challenges due to a prolonged “product lull,” while competitors have continued to grow. Lexus reported a 7.1% sales increase in 2025 following a record year in 2024, while Acura posted a slight gain of just under 1% during the same period.

The QX65 draws inspiration from Infiniti’s earlier FX lineup, known for its performance-oriented design. Production will take place in Smyrna, Tennessee, with vehicles expected to arrive at retailers in early summer.
