The Ioniq V is Hyundai’s first dedicated Ioniq production model for China, unveiled at the start of a renewed market strategy

Hyundai Motor has unveiled the Ioniq V at Auto China 2026 in Beijing as the opening move in a renewed China strategy that includes 20 new models over the next five years. The automaker and joint-venture partner BAIC have committed CN¥8bn (~US$1.17bn) to their Beijing Hyundai operation under an agreement signed in December 2024.

The Ioniq V launches Hyundai’s dedicated Ioniq brand in China and is the first Ioniq production model developed specifically for Chinese customers. Beijing Hyundai plans a follow-up SUV in the first half of 2027, with a broader rollout of battery-electric and extended-range models across midsize and large segments.

Through the expanded lineup, Beijing Hyundai is targeting 500,000 annual vehicle sales, supported by renewed domestic growth and expanded export from China. The plan leans on partnerships with battery maker CATL, autonomous driving supplier Momenta and Qualcomm, whose Snapdragon 8295 powers the Ioniq V’s cockpit.

The Ioniq V measures 4,900 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and sits on a 2,900 mm wheelbase. The long-range variant offers over 600 km of CLTC-rated range, and the vehicle features a 27-inch panoramic display, a nine-airbag system and an AI-powered voice assistant.

In a statement, José Muñoz, President and Chief Executive of Hyundai Motor, said the automaker is ‘tripling down’ on its China commitment. Beijing Hyundai will also roll out a ‘One Price’ sales policy and an expanded charging and battery service network.
