Hertz, Uber partner on robotaxi fleet management

Hertz has launched a new fleet management affiliate called Oro Mobility, with Uber named as its first major partner across two deals

Hertz has launched a new affiliate operating company called Oro Mobility (Oro) and named ride-hailing platform Uber as its first major partner. The two strategic fleet partnerships span both Uber’s autonomous robotaxi programme and a driver-led service operated by Oro employees on the Uber platform across multiple US cities.

Oro will manage day-to-day vehicle asset operations for Uber’s autonomous fleet of Lucid vehicles fitted with Nuro AV technology, covering charging, maintenance, repairs, cleaning and depot staffing. The autonomous service is expected to launch in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year, with Hertz and Uber considering further expansion in 2027.

In a statement, Gil West, Chief Executive of Hertz, said: “Hertz has spent over a century mastering complex fleet operations at scale, and Oro is how we put that expertise to work in the next era of mobility. This partnership with Uber establishes Oro as an integrated solution that connects demand with scalable fleet management services.”

On the driver-led side, Oro is already active on the Uber platform in Los Angeles and San Francisco following a pilot last year in Atlanta, with Northern New Jersey expected to launch this spring. The deal builds on Hertz and Uber’s existing rideshare rental partnership, through which Hertz runs one of the world’s largest rideshare rental fleets.
