Gridserve expands Electric Freightway with four new eHGV hubs

Gridserve’s Electric Freightway is expanding with four new eHGV hubs in the North West, East Midlands and South East, joining seven sites already announced

Gridserve expands Electric Freightway with four new eHGV hubs插图Gridserve has announced four new electric heavy goods vehicle (eHGV) charging hubs as part of its Electric Freightway network, bringing the total number of confirmed or under-construction sites to 11 across England. The newly confirmed locations at Moto Knutsford North, Moto Medway East, Markham Vale Electric Forecourt and Stevenage Electric Forecourt extend dedicated ultra-rapid charging provision into the North West, East Midlands and South East of England.

The announcement follows the opening of the network’s first two public eHGV hubs at Moto Exeter and Extra Baldock Services, with five further sites already under construction at Tamworth, Thurrock, Leeds, Chester and Strensham North. Each hub is designed specifically for heavy freight vehicles, with dedicated bays, signage and ultra-rapid charging.

HGVs account for just under 20% of the UK’s domestic transport CO2 emissions. UK regulations are expected to phase out new non-zero emission HGVs of up to 26 tonnes by 2035 and all new non-zero emission HGVs by 2040, while increasingly stringent European CO2 targets for heavy-duty vehicles are accelerating the shift towards zero-emission trucks across the continent.

In a statement, Sam Clarke, Head of eHGV Programme at Gridserve, said: “Fleet operators need certainty, and they need infrastructure that matches their ambition. By announcing four additional eHGV hubs today, alongside the seven sites we are already building, we are demonstrating our confidence in future eHGV charging demand and our commitment to creating a nationwide network that will enable the electrification of road freight.”
