Euro NCAP tested a record 108 vehicles in 2025, with the Mercedes-Benz CLA named best performer in its annual InReview report
Euro NCAP tested a record 108 vehicles from more than 50 global brands in 2025, its most active year since the safety organisation was founded in 1997, according to its newly published InReview 2025 report. Of the vehicles assessed, 98% achieved four-star ratings or higher.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA was named Best Performer for 2025, becoming the first vehicle in the organisation’s history to earn the title twice, having previously won in 2019. Euro NCAP noted a surge in new market entrants, particularly from emerging electric vehicle brands such as Togg, Firefly, and Exlantix, which largely achieved strong safety scores.

Battery electric vehicles accounted for more than 58% of all cars tested during the year. The organisation’s Green NCAP initiative also transitioned to a full life cycle assessment approach, evaluating environmental impact from manufacturing through to end-of-life.
Euro NCAP highlighted its influence on manufacturer actions, citing the MG 3 as an example where a seat latch failure identified during testing prompted a component redesign and market recall. The organisation’s Safer Trucks Programme released 15 new truck ratings and received the 2025 Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.
In a statement, Dr Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General at Euro NCAP, said: “As we transition into this era of safety innovation and new Euro NCAP 2026 protocols, we remain committed to providing the independent, impartial safety ratings that empower consumers and drive industry innovation.”
