Euro NCAP has welcomed the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention as an affiliate member to contribute accident data and safety research
Euro NCAP has admitted the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (BFU) as an affiliate member of its car safety testing programme, expanding the organisation’s network of road safety research contributors. The BFU, which has operated in Switzerland for nearly 90 years, conducts accident research and provides guidance aimed at reducing serious injuries on Swiss roads and in everyday settings.
As an affiliate member, the BFU will participate in Euro NCAP’s Technical Working Groups, contributing Swiss accident data and national insights across engineering, human factors and behavioural science. The organisation will also support the alignment of Euro NCAP’s assessments with evolving regulations and contribute to future strategic roadmap development, including work on assisted and automated driving technologies.

In a statement, Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP, said: “Their strong expertise in accident research and prevention, together with a unique Swiss perspective and their contribution to our technical working groups, will help ensure that our ratings continue to reflect real-world risks and drive meaningful vehicle safety improvements.”
Stefan Siegrist, Director of the BFU, added: “Euro NCAP’s independent safety ratings provide important impetus for manufacturers, policymakers and consumers alike. We aim to contribute to ensuring that new vehicle technologies realise their full potential in preventing accidents and reducing serious injuries.”
