EnBW, XCharge sign long-term charging partnership

EnBW and XCharge have signed a multi-year framework agreement covering 400 kW charging stations and joint development

EnBW and XCharge have signed a multi-year framework agreement covering the procurement of 400 kW charging stations and joint development of hardware and software. The partnership follows a two-year field test in which ten XCharge C7 Ultra-Fast Chargers completed more than 20,000 charging processes across four EnBW locations in Germany.

EnBW says the partnership will help diversify its supplier base amid global uncertainties and volatile supply chains. The company will have exclusive access to XCharge’s new developments under the agreement, with the first new fast-charging parks featuring XCharge stations moving into the implementation phase in the coming weeks.

EnBW operates the largest fast-charging network in Germany with more than 8,000 charging points and aims to provide up to 20,000 by 2030. The field test locations included two fast-charging stations at EnBW City in Stuttgart, and sites on the A8 motorway in Rutesheim, at the Durlach Center in Karlsruhe, and at Karlsruhe railway station.

In a statement, Martin Roemheld, Chief Executive Officer responsible for e-mobility at EnBW, said: “In XCharge, we are gaining a partner who meets our high quality standards and will help us to make our fast-charging network even more secure and resilient.”

Albina Iljasov, Head of Europe at XCharge, added: “The partnership with the German market leader is an important milestone for us.”

XCharge has headquarters in Hamburg and Austin, Texas, and plans to produce all charging stations for the European market at a new site in Valencia.
