Diodes Incorporated has launched the AL8859Q, a multi-phase SPI boost controller designed for advanced automotive headlight control units supporting multiple lighting functions
Diodes Incorporated has introduced the AL8859Q, an automotive-compliant multi-phase SPI boost controller designed for advanced headlight control units including adaptive front lighting systems. The device supports high beams, low beams, daytime running lights, turn indicators, fog lights and cornering lights within a single integrated lighting module.
The AL8859Q features a current-mode multi-phase boost architecture with a 4.5V to 60V input voltage range, covering 5V, 12V, 24V and 48V supply rails. A single device supports two phases, with three or four phases achievable by synchronising devices, making the controller suitable for output power between 100W and 400W at approximately 95% system efficiency. Voltage accuracy is rated at ±0.5% at 50V, providing a stable supply for downstream LED drivers.
The device’s SPI digital interface allows software programming of output voltage, switching frequency, current limits and protection thresholds, enabling a single hardware platform to be adapted across multiple vehicle applications. Integrated one-time programmable memory supports production-line configuration and stand-alone operation, reducing dependency on a microcontroller unit (MCU). Spread-spectrum frequency modulation eases compliance with CISPR 25 Class 5 electromagnetic interference requirements, reducing the need for external filtering components.
The AL8859Q is housed in a 4mm × 4mm V-QFN4040-24/SWP package and is priced at US$0.60 in 10,000-piece quantities.
