Continental is marking the 20th anniversary of its tyre plant in Camaçari, Brazil, which has produced around 136 million tyres since opening in April 2006. The facility supplies both original equipment and replacement markets across Brazil and South America, with customers including General Motors, Volkswagen, Renault, Honda, Fiat and Mercedes-Benz.

Investment in the plant over the past ten years has totalled around BRL 1.2 billion (€235m/US$273m), reflecting the company’s long-term commitment to local production. Around 2,000 employees currently work at the site, making it one of the leading industrial employers in the Camaçari region.

The plant was established as a greenfield project in 2004, with the first tyre produced in November 2005. Continental said it continues to invest in energy efficiency at the facility, including 100% LED lighting and insulation improvements to key machinery, which contributed to energy savings of 10.4 GW/h in 2025, equivalent to around 5% of the plant’s annual consumption.

In a statement, Shander Basílio, plant manager, said: “Our 20-year journey in Camaçari is a story of continuous growth, operational excellence and the deep commitment of our people to this region.” Rodrigo Bonilha, Head of Continental Tires South America, added: “By manufacturing premium tires locally, we ensure a reliable supply for the Brazilian market while securing valuable local jobs.”
