BorgWarner will supply 800-volt integrated drive modules and generator modules for REEV trucks and SUVs from 2029
BorgWarner has secured a contract with an unnamed North American automaker to supply 800-volt integrated drive modules and generator modules for range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) trucks and large-frame sport utility vehicles. Production is scheduled to begin in 2029.
The supplier will provide a secondary integrated drive module featuring an induction electric machine and gearbox, alongside a generator module incorporating a permanent magnet electric machine and dual inverter mounted directly to an internal combustion engine. BorgWarner said the combination enables electric vehicle performance with extended range from the combustion engine.

The contract marks the introduction of BorgWarner’s next-generation Viper power module, which the company described as a power-dense design that enabled a smaller and more cost-effective inverter solution.
BorgWarner said the induction electric machine in the integrated drive module eliminates the need for permanent magnets, supporting supply chain resilience. The company said a key design challenge was achieving performance requirements within packaging constraints shared with the internal combustion engine.
Dr Stefan Demmerle, Vice President of BorgWarner and President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, said: “This business win showcases our breadth in the propulsion space in North America, accentuating our innovative design and manufacturing capabilities to deliver a full motor portfolio from platform-based, high performing and efficient drive units to inverters, e-machines, control boards and more.”
