BMW M has outlined plans for fully electric high-performance vehicles featuring four electric motors and 800-volt technology
BMW M will launch its first fully electric high-performance vehicles from 2027, built on the automaker’s Neue Klasse platform and featuring a new four-motor drivetrain system dubbed BMW M eDrive. The system places one electric motor at each wheel, paired with 800-volt charging technology, a high-voltage battery exceeding 100 kWh of usable capacity, and a new control system called BMW M Dynamic Performance Control that enables precise torque distribution to individual wheels.

In a statement, Franciscus van Meel, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH, said: “The next generation of models are set to establish a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment. With the latest generation of Neue Klasse technology, we are taking the BMW M driving experience to a new level and will inspire our customers with outstanding, racetrack-ready driving dynamics for everyday use.”
The architecture features four high-performance computers, referred to as “Superbrains,” managing computing power for driving dynamics, automated driving, infotainment and comfort functions. The front axle can be fully decoupled, allowing rear-wheel drive operation for improved efficiency on motorway journeys.
BMW M will also introduce natural fibre elements for the first time in its electric high-performance lineup. The material offers similar properties to carbon fibre but can be produced with approximately 40% less CO2 equivalent emissions.
