Aumovio to cut 4,000 R&D jobs by end of 2026

Aumovio will cut up to 4,000 R&D positions globally by the end of 2026 as part of efforts to reduce its development spending ratio

Aumovio plans to cut up to 4,000 research and development positions globally as part of a restructuring effort aimed at reducing its R&D expense ratio to below 10% of sales by 2027, down from 11.9% in the third quarter of 2025. The reductions, expected to be largely completed by the end of 2026, will affect sites in India, Singapore, Romania, Serbia, Germany, and Mexico, with German locations facing cuts in the high triple digits.

The supplier said it would implement the measures “as socially responsible as possible,” with a voluntary programme set to launch at affected German sites in early March. The company has entered discussions with employee representatives to explore alternatives that could reduce the need for job losses in Germany.

In a statement, Chief Executive Philipp von Hirschheydt said: “In a challenging environment, we are taking additional steps to consistently enhance our efficiency. We are focusing on value-creating technologies, investing in future-oriented fields, and leveraging both new and proven partnerships.”

Aumovio said it would continue to invest in software-defined vehicles, autonomous mobility, advanced display solutions, and electronic braking systems.
