Volkswagen Group will launch 20 new smart electric vehicles in China this year, on the way to 50 electrified models by 2030
Volkswagen Group has used its Media Night ahead of Auto China 2026 to unveil four global premieres and launch an “Agentic AI for all” roadmap, positioning the Beijing event as the clearest statement yet of its “in China, for China” strategy. The Group will launch 20 new smart electric vehicles in China this year, building toward a portfolio of around 30 electrified models by 2027 and 50 by 2030, including roughly 30 fully electric cars.
The four premieres span Volkswagen, JETTA and AUDI. The ID. AURA T6 from FAW-Volkswagen opens a new fully electric mid-size SUV series built on the locally developed China Electronic Architecture (CEA) with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) from in-house venture CARIZON. The close-to-production ID. UNYX 09 is a five-metre electric sedan from Volkswagen Anhui. The JETTA X concept previews the sub-brand’s shift into new energy vehicles (NEVs), with four NEV models planned by 2028. The AUDI E7X, the second production model from the China-exclusive AUDI brand, debuts as a fully electric large SUV offered in 300 kW and 500 kW variants and is set to introduce Audi’s first Level 3 automated driving capabilities.
Oliver Blume, Chief Executive at Volkswagen Group, said: “After E-mobility for all and ADAS for all we are now introducing Agentic AI for all. Starting this year, our in-car AI Agent will begin coming to our locally developed cars. With this step the Volkswagen Group is the first global automaker to deploy agentic AI across an entire vehicle portfolio in China at scale.”
