Mitsubishi Motors Philippines will invest in facility upgrades to support electrification under the government’s EVIS scheme
Mitsubishi Motors has announced its intention to join the Philippine government’s Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS), with plans to begin production of a new hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) model at its plant in Santa Rosa City, Laguna, around mid-2028, subject to application approval. The announcement was made during a meeting between Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos and Takao Kato, Chief Executive of Mitsubishi Motors.
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC), the automaker’s local production and sales subsidiary, will carry out the new HEV manufacturing programme. MMPC plans additional investments including facility enhancements to support electrification, with the initiative expected to expand the local supply chain and generate employment in the region.
Takao Kato said: “The Philippines has long been one of our most important markets, where we have engaged in production and sales for many years. In cooperation with the Philippine government, we are honoured to contribute to the advancement of vehicle electrification and industrial development through the EVIS programme, as well as to support the further growth of the Philippine economy.”
MMPC currently produces the Mirage, Mirage G4, and L300 at its Santa Rosa facility, which has a production capacity of 50,000 units per year.
