Scout Motors details audio identity for Traveler and Terra debut

Scout Motors has detailed the audio design approach for its forthcoming Traveler SUV and Terra truck, drawing on recordings from a vintage Scout vehicle, a Kentucky farm and a Nashville recording studio to create a distinct sound identity for the brand’s debut models.

The company’s audio user experience framework, branded Community UX, encompasses more than 70 in-vehicle sounds organised around three design pillars. The first, Icon Preserved, uses mechanical recordings of an original Scout vehicle captured in an anechoic chamber in Novi, Michigan, including turn signal clicks, button sounds and engine noise. The second, Connection to the Land, incorporates field recordings from a working Kentucky farm. The third, Humble American, draws on acoustic guitar recordings made at a Nashville studio, with a grain silo used as a reverb reference.

The resulting sound library was mastered using analogue equipment at Nashville’s House of David studio. Scout says each sound is assigned to a functional category — safety alerts, daily utility cues or brand expression — with frequency of use informing the tone and character of each.

In a statement, Andre Nitze-Nelson, Director of UX Design at Scout Motors, said: “This process ensures a memorable Community UX where distinct sounds prioritize safety, utility, and pure joy, all while sharing a unique Scout sound family DNA that will elevate the driving adventure.”
