RoboSense to supply lidar for 2,000 WeRide robotaxis

RoboSense’s EM4 and E1 digital lidar units have been selected for WeRide’s Robotaxi GXR, with 2,000 units planned for delivery

RoboSense has announced that its EM4 thousand-beam-level digital lidar and E1 fully solid-state digital lidar have been selected for WeRide’s Robotaxi GXR, co-developed with Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group, a Geely subsidiary. Production is scheduled to begin in Q3 2026, with 2,000 units planned for delivery to domestic and international markets.

The Robotaxi GXR is equipped with WeRide’s Gen8 autonomous driving suite, which includes the company’s Sensor Suite 8.0. The EM4 serves as the main lidar, offering customisation of up to 2,160 beams, a detection range of up to 600 metres and what RoboSense describes as a 17-fold increase in point cloud density compared to previous systems.

The E1 is a fully solid-state blind-spot lidar with a 120° by 90° field of view, designed to eliminate near-field blind spots. RoboSense says the combination of the two sensors provides long-range precision and 360-degree near-field coverage.

WeRide’s global robotaxi fleet reached 1,023 vehicles as of January 2026. With the addition of the 2,000 new GXR units, the company’s operational fleet will exceed 2,600 robotaxis globally. WeRide currently operates commercial services in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh, Beijing and Guangzhou.

RoboSense says it maintains partnerships with more than 90% of the world’s leading Level 4 autonomous driving companies.
