Detroit’s new Gen 6 DD13, DD15 and DD16 engines will comply with US EPA 2027 standards and cover all Freightliner and Western Star trucks.
Daimler Truck North America has announced a sixth-generation Detroit engine portfolio comprising the DD13, DD15 and DD16. The engines are fully compliant with the EPA’s incoming 2027 emissions standards and will be available across the Freightliner and Western Star heavy-duty truck ranges.
The Gen 6 lineup refines the previous generation’s architecture, with efficiency improvements designed to offset the performance impact of emissions-related changes. Detroit has sold 1.2 million heavy-duty engines to date across on-highway and vocational applications in North America and other markets.
“With our Gen 6 engines, we have a successor that builds on years of proven performance to be prepared for ’27 and beyond,” said David Carson, Daimler Truck North America’s senior vice president of sales and marketing.
The DD13 and DD15 enter production in January 2027, with the DD16 following in January 2028. All three are manufactured at Detroit’s Redford, Michigan facility.
