Knorr-Bremse is investing up to €200m in a new campus in Chennai that will produce braking components for commercial vehicles
Knorr-Bremse is investing up to €200m over the next five years in a modular campus in Chennai, India, which will include production of braking system components for commercial vehicles. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in mid-February, with operations scheduled to commence at the end of 2027.
The facility will cover approximately 188,000 square metres and is designed to host up to 3,500 employees in the long term. It will complement Knorr-Bremse’s existing development and production sites in Pune and Palwal.

In a statement, Marc Llistosella, Chief Executive of Knorr-Bremse, said: “India is a key region for us with great potential—as a location for innovation, a production hub, and a transport market. Our future campus enables us to connect global capabilities even more closely, make processes more efficient, and accelerate projects. This creates a strong foundation for our Rail and Truck divisions to grow profitably—in India as well as in international markets.”
The supplier said it is responding to expected growth in India across its core segments, including commercial vehicles such as trucks, delivery vehicles, and buses. Products manufactured in Chennai will serve both the Indian market and global export. Knorr-Bremse’s combined sales volume in India currently exceeds €300m per year. The campus will meet LEED Platinum sustainability standards.
