The upgraded WEX Fleet card embeds RFID technology for tap-to-charge capability at over 175,000 public charging ports in the US
WEX has launched an upgraded fleet card that combines traditional fuel and public electric vehicle charging payments into a single card, account and invoice, which the company says is a first for the fuel card industry. The card embeds RFID technology for tap-to-charge capability at over 175,000 public charging ports and is accepted at over 90% of US petrol stations.
The offering is designed to address fragmented payment systems faced by fleets operating a mix of electric and internal combustion engine vehicles. Fleet managers retain unified reporting, purchase controls via the DriverDash app and a single credit line for all fueling and charging transaction data.
The WEX Fleet card with EV payment capabilities is available now for eligible fleet customers. Existing customers can request updated cards through the WEX online portal or receive them during their next regular card renewal cycle.
In a statement, Carlos Carriedo, Chief Operating Officer, Americas Payments & Mobility at WEX, said: “Fleets don’t want more cards, more systems, or more reconciliation. Our customers want one solution that works everywhere, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering with EV payments built directly into this new WEX Fleet card. It’s simplicity at scale for mixed-energy operations.”
