Adient has announced ModuTec, a modular seat design solution intended to simplify assembly and enable higher levels of automation
Adient has announced ModuTec, a modular seat design solution intended to simplify the vehicle seat manufacturing process and enable higher levels of automation in production. The supplier said the system allows seat modules to be assembled offline and then sequenced into the main just-in-time (JIT) production line, reducing assembly time from minutes to seconds.
Adient said ModuTec was developed following analysis of the requirements of automakers, manufacturing facilities and consumers. The company stated the modular approach can help reduce production costs, simplify workflows, decrease factory floor space requirements and improve serviceability for dealers.

In a statement, Griffin Brown, Vice President of VAVE, Innovation and Mechanisms BU, Americas at Adient, said: “ModuTec will fundamentally change how seats are made going forward. By balancing all aspects of cost efficiency, engineering criteria and manufacturing best practices, ModuTec is a bold step in the direction the industry needs today and into tomorrow.”
Traditional vehicle seat manufacturing relies on integrated processes that are labour-intensive. Adient said ModuTec’s modular design enables component integration and allows for improvements in craftsmanship and warranty handling.
