Hyundai Mobis is developing a 5G telematics solution with integrated antenna, targeting product completion in the first half of 2026

Hyundai Mobis is developing a 5G-based multi-function telematics control unit (MTCU) with integrated antenna functionality, targeting product completion in the first half of 2026 as the supplier seeks to establish leadership in the connected car market. The solution, showcased at CES 2026, eliminates the need for externally protruding antennas by integrating the antenna into the controller, and is designed to enable services including high-precision mapping, remote control for autonomous driving and ultra-high-definition streaming.

The supplier said 5G-based telematics is recognised as essential technology for the shift toward software-defined vehicles. Current 4G telematics supports services such as over-the-air updates, car-to-home connectivity and infotainment streaming, while 5G expands these capabilities.

Jung Soo-Kyung, Executive Vice President and Head of the Automotive Electronics Business Unit at Hyundai Mobis, said: “To achieve rapid market entry in the next-generation connected car service sector, we will complete product development by the first half of this year and secure market leadership in the global market.”

Hyundai Mobis is collaborating with mobile communication modem specialists including South Korean firm AM on the technology. The supplier currently mass-produces 4G-based telematics products.
