Valeo and Infineon have unveiled an HD ground projection module at Auto China 2026, pairing lighting and laser-scanning chips
Valeo and Infineon Technologies have unveiled a high-definition ground projection module at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, pairing Valeo’s automotive lighting expertise with Infineon’s laser-beam-scanning chip set. The first-generation module produces bi-colour images on the ground around a parked vehicle, with full-colour iterations on the supplier roadmap.
The module integrates Infineon’s 2D MEMS mirror and controller into Valeo’s short-distance projection unit. The combination is intended to give the daytime brightness, contrast and resolution needed for ground graphics visible in real-world conditions, an obstacle that has held back commercial deployment.

Two use cases anchor the pitch. The first is brand-led personalisation, with OEMs projecting welcome and goodbye signatures, custom graphics or messages next to the vehicle as a driver approaches. The second is V2X-driven road safety: dynamic projections flagging braking, lane-change intentions or pedestrian crossings to other road users, including those without connected vehicles.
Both companies framed the safety use case as subject to regulatory approval, which currently restricts exterior projections in many markets.
Maurizio Martinelli, Chief Executive of Valeo’s Light Division, said the joint development targets customers in China and Europe. Infineon Executive Vice President of Sensor Units and RF Thomas Schafbauer framed the work as part of the company’s XENSIV automotive sensor strategy.
