Robotically applied at 2 mm wide, the adhesive tape supports the narrow display bezels now common in automotive cockpits
Adhesive specialist tesa and technology firm Aumovio, the Continental Automotive spin-off, have introduced a jointly developed adhesive solution for automotive displays designed to be debonded on demand. The partners are preparing the system for volume production from the second quarter of 2026.
The process uses a robotically applied adhesive tape that is instantly load-bearing and can be integrated into existing production lines. The bond can be selectively detached during production or servicing, allowing individual display assemblies to be replaced or reworked without scrapping the entire display module. At 2 mm wide, the tape supports narrow display bezels comparable to smartphone formats.

The system uses viscoelastic bonds with no curing time and is rated to compensate for material expansion across the temperature range typical of automotive use. Aumovio said it is already in discussions with automakers on repair and recycling programmes for selected components, positioning the solution against end-of-life recyclability targets as well as in-line rework.
David Caro, Head of Automotive at tesa, said: “Together with Aumovio, we offer automated adhesive bonds that not only provide long-term durability but can also be deliberately debonded, enabling efficient production, longer product life cycles, and circular product concepts.”
Pavel Prouza, Head of User Experience at Aumovio, added: “The combination of highly precise, automated application and targeted detachability adds an important element to our manufacturing and quality processes. It strengthens the robustness of our production, reduces material waste, and promotes efficient use of valuable components.”
