cellcentric launches 375 kW truck fuel cell system

cellcentric claims 20% lower fuel use and 40% higher power density against BZA150, with series production set for 2030

Fuel-cell specialist cellcentric has launched BZA375, its next-generation heavy-duty fuel cell system previously developed under the NextGen codename. The system was unveiled at Hannover Messe 2026 and is now available to customers for testing, validation and fleet trials, with series production planned for the turn of the decade.

BZA375 delivers up to 375 kW of continuous net power, equivalent to more than 500 horsepower, from a single-system package weighing under 500 kg. Against predecessor BZA150, cellcentric reports 20% lower fuel consumption, 40% higher power density, 40% less waste heat at 300 kW, and 40% fewer components and interfaces. A fully loaded 40-tonne truck is projected to consume under 6 kg of hydrogen per 100 km.

The single-system design replaces the twin-system approach used for BZA150 in heavy-duty trucks and is engineered to fit engine bays built for 13-litre diesel units. Service life is rated at 25,000 hours, roughly a decade of heavy-duty truck operation. Target applications extend beyond long-haul trucks to coaches, rail, mining and stationary power generation, supporting a one-product strategy aimed at economies of scale.

Nicholas Loughlan, Chief Technology Officer at cellcentric, said: “BZA375 is custom tailored for the needs of heavy-duty, long-haul trucks and an excellent fit in other applications with comparable requirements. At cellcentric, we are deliberately set up as an independent Tier 1 supplier and open to partnering with any OEMs that are driving the decarbonisation of their portfolios.”

Karin Rådström, President and Chief Executive at Daimler Truck, added: “Building on the success of its predecessor, it represents a new level of efficiency and performance.”
