Volkswagen said that the potential deal would not directly produce missiles, but it still risks exposure to the same political backlash that enveloped Tesla. By Stewart Burnett

Volkswagen is in discussions with Israeli state-owned defence firm Rafael Advanced Defence Systems about converting its Osnabrück plant in Lower Saxony to produce components for Israel’s Iron Dome air defence system, people familiar with the plans have told the Financial Times. The site, which employs 2,300 people and faces potential closure in 2027, would manufacture heavy-duty transport trucks, missile launchers, and power generators for the system—but not the missiles themselves, which Volkswagen has taken pains to rule out.
