Hyundai’s Elexio electric midsize SUV has achieved a five-star safety rating from ANCAP ahead of its Australian market launch
Hyundai Motor Company’s Elexio electric midsize SUV has achieved a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). The rating applies to all Elexio variants with build dates from October 2025 onwards and sale dates in Australia from February 2026.
ANCAP conducts independent assessments aligned with European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) standards. Under the 2023-2025 assessment criteria, the Elexio demonstrated strong protection for adult and child occupants, as well as performance in safeguarding vulnerable road users.

The vehicle features Hyundai’s SmartSense driver assistance technologies as standard across all variants. These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0, which can detect vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and powered two-wheelers, as well as Lane Keeping Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist with braking intervention.
The Elexio is equipped with a nine-airbag system, including a front centre airbag and extended side curtain airbags. The body structure comprises 77.5% high-strength steel content.
In ANCAP testing, the vehicle achieved strong results in frontal and side-impact scenarios, with the centre airbag helping to mitigate occupant interaction. Child occupant protection was rated ‘Good’ for six and 10-year-old child dummies, with ISOFix and top tether anchorages across rear seating positions.
