Donut Lab has asked VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland to independently measure its solid-state battery, with results published from 23 February
Finnish technology company Donut Lab has commissioned VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland to conduct independent measurements of its solid-state battery, which the company claims is the first of its kind ready for serial production in vehicles. VTT, a state-owned research organisation, carried out the testing in its own laboratory, with results to be published in a series beginning 23 February 2025.
Donut Lab launched the battery at CES in January, where it drew attention from media and industry experts. The company said independent measurement was intended to provide technical detail to support the claims made at launch.

Compared with conventional lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries do not contain flammable liquids and are not susceptible to thermal runaway. Donut Lab says its battery enables longer range and lighter vehicle structures.
Results will be released via Donut Lab’s social media channels and the I Donut Believe website, with full measurement reports also published on the company’s own site. In a statement, Marko Lehtimäki, Chief Executive of Donut Lab, said: “Such an exceptional innovation has naturally also generated plenty of speculation and doubt – how is this even possible? It really is possible, and we want now to shine a light on the technical features of the battery by means of more detailed measurements.”
