NextStar Energy’s Windsor plant has produced one million battery cells since commercial production started in November 2025
NextStar Energy has produced its one millionth battery cell at its Windsor manufacturing facility, marking a milestone for Canada’s first commercial-scale battery plant since production began in November 2025. The company has onboarded more than 1,300 direct employees to date, with more than CA$5bn invested in the facility.
Each battery cell is manufactured through automated processes and multi-stage quality verification. The facility holds ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and IATF 16949 certifications covering environmental management, workplace health and safety, and automotive-grade quality systems.

“The success of our production ramp-up belongs to our employees,” Brett Hillock, Chief Operating Officer, said. “Our team continues to raise the bar, and this achievement is a direct reflection of their discipline, technical expertise and unwavering commitment.”
LG Energy Solution recently announced it will acquire full ownership of NextStar Energy, with Stellantis remaining a committed customer. Under the new ownership structure, NextStar Energy will leverage LG Energy Solution’s technological leadership and operational expertise to serve a broader customer base, including the energy storage system industry.
Production of energy storage system battery cells at NextStar Energy will continue accelerating through 2026, the company said.
