Toyota has unveiled the ninth-generation Hilux at the Brussels Motor Show, featuring battery electric and 48V hybrid powertrains

Toyota has unveiled the ninth-generation Hilux at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show, with the pick-up adopting a battery electric powertrain for the first time alongside a 48V hybrid option that the automaker expects to be the volume seller in Europe. The BEV variant will launch in April 2026, followed by the hybrid version in July, with both models retaining the body-on-frame construction that has underpinned the Hilux’s off-road capability across previous generations.

The Hilux BEV uses a 59.2kWh lithium-ion battery with front and rear eAxles providing permanent all-wheel drive. Toyota said WLTP homologation data shows up to 257km of range in the combined cycle and up to 380km in the city cycle. Payload capacity is 715kg with 1.6-tonne towing, while ground clearance of 212mm and 700mm wading depth match the hybrid variant.

The 48V hybrid pairs a 2.8-litre diesel engine with a lithium-ion battery for improved refinement and efficiency. This version offers one-tonne payload capacity and 3.5-tonne towing.

Both models will be offered exclusively in double-cab format and feature Toyota’s T-Mate active safety systems. The automaker said the new Hilux builds on more than 27 million global sales across more than half a century of production, with quality, durability, and reliability remaining central to the latest model. Pricing and full specifications will be announced closer to launch.
